Superbowl 52 Betting Analysis

The defending champion New England Patriots get ready to defend their title against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 52, let’s take a looks at both teams to understand who will have the edge in the BIG game.

Super Bowl 52 Betting Analysis

New England Patriots

Offense: The Patriots finished the regular season averaging 28.6 points per game, which was second in the NFL. This is pretty impressive given that though they were without their leading receiver, Julian Edelman, the entire season, they continue to be the team to beat.

MVP award front-runner, Tom Brady, hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down despite naysayers rambling on about his age. Brady shut down these comments with 4,577 yards thrown, 32 touchdowns scored and just eight interceptions.

New England’s offense is as deadly as ever with additions such as Brandin Cooks, who’s turned in 1,082 yard and 7 touchdowns and the likes of tight end Rob Gronkowski who finished with 1,084 yards and 8 touchdowns.

The Patriots might have taken a heavy blow, however, when Gronkowski left the AFC Championship game with a potential concussion that might keep him from playing in the Super Bowl.

Defense: New England’s defense hasn’t quite received the respect it deserves even though it ranked fifth in the league and held opponents to 18.5 points per game.

Despite being hobbled by injuries, it continues to play well and come up big when it’s mattered. In fact, it was through the defense’s effort in the second half of the game against the Jaguars that, arguably, the Patriots now find themselves in the Super Bowl once more.

The Patriots defense will have their hands full with the Eagles. Not only do they have to contend with a quarterback that hardly anything is known but that’s playing very well, they also have to face an offense that will keep switching things up with players of the likes of tight end Zach Ertz, Alshon Jeffery, Nelson Agholor, Torrey Smith, Jay Ajayi, and Trey Burton, all dangerous players.

New England’s defense should be wary of underestimating the Eagles’ offense, especially after how they beat the Vikings’ touted 4th ranked defense.
It’s certainly clear that if New England commits errors such as those that Vikings cornerback Terence Newman or Torrey Smith committed that led to scoring receptions, they might lose the game.

Get ready to see a good battle between safety Patrick Chung and Zach Ertz and cornerback Malcolm Butler and Agholor.

Philadelphia Eagles

Offense: The Eagles set this season on fire, scoring an average of 28.6 points per game with quarterback Carson Wentz at the helm.

Then Wentz was injured and Nick Foles was thrown into the fire with the Eagles’ season hanging in the brink. Wentz went on to defeat the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship game, throwing for 350 yards and three touchdowns.

Offensive coordinators have found a game plan that plays well into Foles’ strengths and minimizes his weaknesses and is looking towards keeping the Patriots defense guessing by changing looks and plays.

What makes the Eagles offense so dangerous is its balance; on the ground, they averaged 132 yards per game during the regular season, led by former Patriot LeGarrette Blount who as an Eagle acquired 766 yards and two touchdowns.

The Eagles offense can land New England’s defense in hot water. Philadelphia spreads the ball well through the passing game, with three receivers going over 700 yards and eight receiving touchdowns, and moves the chains with a solid running game.

Defense: Since Wentz’ injury, the defense has been the heart and soul of this team and it’s something that continued in the playoffs.

In the regular season, they held opponents to just 18.4 points per game and to seven points per game in the playoffs. However, the defense’s chink in the armor is that these games were played at home away from which they’ve allowed 23.5 points per game.

Also, the Eagles are throwing their backs against one of the hardest tasks in recent football history: Defeating the Tom Brady-led Patriots offense.

Eagles’ defensive coordinator will have to pull out all the stops if he’s to disrupt Brady, who as stated above is playing arguably the best football of his career.
Even if the defense somehow flushes Brady out of the pocket or pressures him with four-man rushes, the Patriots signal caller is practically unstoppable and will make you pay with plays that breakdown what any coverage can handle.

Players such Chris Long, who also won a ring with New England last season, and Malcolm Jenkins, will have to rise to the occasion if they’re to defeat a Bill Belichick-coached team.
