The team was born as an expansion team named the Seattle SuperSonics for the 1967-68 season, but in 2008, the franchise made a move out of their original hometown.

They managed to win their first division title as the Thunder during the 2010-11 season.
And then they acquired their first Western Conference championship during the 2011-12 season, making it to the NBA Finals for the fourth time in the history of the franchise, and the first since 1996 when the team belonged to Seattle.
