If you’re betting on the Jazz

The Jazz seems to have figured out the Thunder’s tactics. Whatever OKC’s changes, Utah just goes on right ahead to counter.

Rudy Gobert has taken front and center in all of this; the Jazz’ big man has been an intimidating presence in the paint and made it especially hard for players such as Russell Westbrook to score points.

Gobert has pretty much singlehandedly taken Westbrook out from the points counter and kept him under wraps.

Ricky Rubio has also stepped up big time. Rubio scored 26 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out 10 assists in Game 3.

The Thunder will obviously try to put more pressure on Rubio tonight because they know that if they can’t shut him down it’ll probably mean losing once more. Rubio has scored an average of 20 points in this series.

Utah has an edge in that they’re in Utah for today’s game, the fans at Vivint Smart Home Arena will not be welcoming and will do whatever it takes to heckle the Thunder into losing focus.

Another player that has contributed in a significant way has been rookie guard Donovan Mitchell, who’s been the Jazz’ go-to man in setting its attack.

Even the likes of Paul George believes Donovan should be paid attention to, “that’s because he had that wanting to be the best player on the floor mentality,” George said. “He’s worked and clawed his way to where he is now. He’s going to be special."

If you’re betting on the Thunder

The Thunder is being owned. And, they seem to be cool about it. In ESPN’s Royce Young’s words:

There’s a bright side for the Thunder though, if they can even out the series they’ll head to Oklahoma City where they’ll have the advantage of playing on their home court.

Nevertheless, the Thunder needs to pick up their slack because the way they’re playing just isn’t cutting it.

Russell Westbrook is not playing at the MVP level he’s expected to. He’s been hesitant to take control and seems wary of Rudy Gobert enough to attempt fewer shots per game.

The fact is, Westbrook has to take to Gobert’s face. If that means Gobert will swat the ball a few more times, it also may mean he can get into foul trouble.

If that happens, then it could also open up some more chinks in the Jazz’ defensive armor.

Center Steven Adams has also found himself in foul trouble in these last two games, which isn’t good news because of the Thunder’s lack of a backup at center.

Lastly, Paul George seems to be all over the place and is making enough mistakes that have turned into easy Jazz buckets.

Needless to say, it’s critical for the Thunder to win tonight on the road. If they don’t then the Jazz will be up 3-1 and it’ll make a deeper hole to crawl out of even if the following game is on their home court.

Game Prediction: I don’t believe the Thunder will win tonight. The Jazz will defend their home court and send the Thunder back to Oklahoma with egg on their faces. Notch one more for the Jazz.
