Memphis Grizzlies Brief History

This team was originally from Vancouver, Canada, and was created during the 1995-96 season as an expansion franchise.

Then, after the 2000-2001 season, the team relocated to Memphis.

A couple of years later, Pau Gasol arrived in the team, and with his help, the Grizzlies managed to advance to the NBA playoffs three consecutive years but didn’t manage to make it to the NBA Finals.

The 2011 season proved very successful for this franchise, as the team was able to win their first playoffs series against the San Antonio Spurs 4 games to 2.

But, their hopes went to the drain when they faced the Oklahoma City Thunder during the Eastern Conference semifinals, getting defeated in seven games.

Despite being one of the youngest teams in the league, the Grizzlies already hold rivalries with three franchises: The Clippers, the Thunder, and the Spurs.

Los Angeles Clippers

These teams became rivals during the 2011-12 season when the Clippers managed to eliminate the Grizzlies in seven matches in the first round of the 2012 NBA Playoffs.

With that said, the Grizzlies got their revenge during the 2012-13 season, taking down the Clippers in six matches during the first round of the 2013 NBA Playoffs.

Oklahoma City Thunder

This team also holds a rivalry with the Thunder, and the teams faced each other during 2011, 2013, and 2014 seasons.

Oklahoma City defeated Memphis during the conference semifinals in 2011, and also on 2014, with each of these series going to seven games.

But, the Grizzlies were able to defeat the Thunder in five matches during the conference semifinals in 2013.

San Antonio Spurs

This rivalry dates back to 2004 when San Antonio managed to sweep Memphis in the first round.

Seven seasons later, they met again, and it was payback time for the Grizzlies, as they managed to defeat the Spurs in six games during the first round.
