Armed Forces, Pinstripe, Holiday Bowls

The college football bowl games get better each and every week as we head into the New Year and Thursday is no exception.

Two programs that have had unbelievable turnarounds meet in the Armed Forces Bowl when Army and SMU square off. Army will be making its first bowl appearance in 14 years but have a tough draw as they will play SMU on their home turf. This bowl game is usually played at TCU's Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, but the school is renovating the facility, moving the contest to Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas for this season only. Time will only tell if it favors the Mustangs or if the Black Knights can get the win.

College football makes its debut in New Yankee stadium in the Bronx. It seems only fitting that the Syracuse Orangeman make an appearance in the Pinstripe Bowl. They will go up against head coach Bill Snyder and the Kansas State Wildcats. The Wildcats will give Syracuse a big dose of senior Daniel Thomas, who had 1,495 rushing yards on the year with 16 scores. Tackling Thomas could be a big problem for the Orange who will be without defensive tackle Andrew Lewis and linebacker Brice Hawkes, who are suspended for violating team rules. This game could come down to how effective the run defense for Syracuse is.

Nebraska defeated Washington 56-21 in Seattle earlier this year and will get another whack in the Holiday Bowl. This will be the last game for the cornhuskers as a member of the Big 12 conference and although they would prefer a BCS bowl, they will be ready for Washington. Washington will try and pull off the impossible and send quarterback Jake Locker to the NFL draft with a big win over a ranked opponent.
