World Series of Poker: Preview by Numbers

The World Series of Poker is a gamblers paradise and card players from around the world enter with the shot of winning Poker’s biggest prize. It also is a playground of weird but interesting facts that are broken down by the numbers. 4 --Number of WSOP final table appearances for Justin Bonomo. The accomplished poker pro has yet to pick up a bracelet in his WSOP career, but he has picked up a fifth, a fourth, and two second place finishes, the most recent of which came in Thursday’s $2,500 Deuce-to-Seven Triple Draw event. 6 --Number of different formats being played at the Rio on Thursday. While there are usually a couple of straight No Limit Hold’em events running, Thursday’s line-up of action included three different No Limit Hold’em formats (Six-Handed, Triple Chance, and traditional full ring play), a Mixed Hold’em event, Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo, and Deuce-to-Seven Triple Draw. 26 --Number of letters in $1,500 No Limit Hold’em Event chip leader Athanasios Polychronopoulos’ name. He is not the only one with a mouthful of a moniker. Yevgeniy Timoshenko, who is second in chips with four players remaining in the tournament, has 18 letters in his name. 30 --Average age of the participants in the $10,000 Six-Handed No Limit Hold’em Championship event. By comparison the average age of a WSOP participant through the first thirty events was 36. The final table of this “young” event was even younger than the average suggested, with Bertrand Grospellier serving as the elder statesman of the table at the ripe old age of 30. 3 --Number of players to earn seven figures at this years WSOP. Thanks to the $10,000 Six-Handed No Limit Hold’em Championship, Ben Lamb, Joe Ebanks, and Chris Moorman all passed the million-dollar mark in WSOP tournament earnings. Moorman is the only one of the three to earn that much without winning a bracelet. 5 --Less woman taking part in Friday’s WSOP Ladies Championship. Vanessa Peng is the last woman standing in the $5,000 Triple Chance. She is leading the field with 34 players remaining and, with a 2:30pm restart time for Day 3 action, it seems unlikely she will bust out before registration in the Ladies Event closes at around 4pm. The World Series of Poker is always fun to watch to see who will end up as this year’s leader and winner of the highly coveted bracelet.
