Copa America

Kickoff is only a couple of days away for the first game that will see Team USA face off against Colombia in Santa Clara, California.

And, while this will be a great match, it’s only the tip of the iceberg for what’s in store. Here are the group draws:

Group A: United States, Colombia, Costa Rica and Paraguay.

Colombia leads the table as the favorites, though the USA, as hosts, have an the advantage. Much will be telling in the first match, with both teams sporting its talent and trying to win. Real Madrid’ James Rodriguez and Juventus’ Juan Cuadrado lead Colombia, while Michael Bradley and Clint Dempsey lead Team USA.

However, this group also faces stiff competition with the likes of Costa Rica and Paraguay also being able opponents. If you recall Costa Rica’s story in the 2014 World Cup, it defeated Italy, Uruguay and England to make to the second round in the “Death Group.” As for Paraguay, it’s also a deadly squad that has a great shot to make it through.

Group B: Brazil, Ecuador, Haiti, and Peru

Brazil is the undisputed favorite and without a doubt was favored in the draw. However, in losing to world champion Germany on their home soil during the World Cup by a score of 1-7, doubts loom on the horizon if Brazil’s golden era has passed and whether or not they’re too reliant on Neymar Jr’s obvious abilities.

Haiti pretty much has no shot, but will do its best to give competition. Meanwhile, Ecuador and Peru should be fighting for the second spot and to move to the next round.

Group C: Mexico, Uruguay, Jamaica, and Venezuela

With two football giants in this group, competition will be fierce. Mexico is the CONCACAF’s favorite while Uruguay is CONMEBOL’s. Both have plenty of talent in their ranks, with Uruguay sporting one of the deadliest attackers in the world in the likes of Luis Suarez, while Mexico has Chicharrito Hernandez on its team.

Jamaica’s “Reggae Boyz” will give a good showing, while Venezuela will try to bring good news back home where their countrymen might welcome some relief, albeit the difficult circumstances.

Group D: Argentina, Chile, Panama, and Bolivia.

Of course, one could not look at this group without thinking about Argentina’s Leo Messi. Argentina is the clear favorite to win this group, followed closely by Chile.

However, do not discount Panama and Bolivia as surprises in this competition. Both countries have able players that might pose difficulties even for Argentina or Chile.

Euro Cup 2016

Kickoff comes on Friday, June 10th, at Stade de France in Paris and this will be one heck of a competition. The European powerhouses will be looking to make their mark which means fans will be treated to great matches throughout. Let’s look a the group draws.

Group A: France, Romania, Albania and Switzerland

France is the clear favorite in this group and the draw favored it. Not only are they the hosts, but they’ve also had success when the competition is on their home soil. France won the 1984 European Championship and the 1998 World Cup both of which were held in France.

However, Switzerland poses a threat to France, with Xherdan Shaqiri among its ranks as an able midfielder capable of setting up plays. Romania and Albania are pretty much scratch offs in this competition, though they’ll be fighting for a third place in this group.

Group B: England, Russia, Wales, and Slovakia.

There’s a storm a-brewin’ between England and Wales, two teams that sport great talent among its ranks and qualified well for this competition. Though its the first time in 58 years that Wales makes it to a major tournament, with Gareth Bale leading the attack, they have a solid shot of making it far in the competition.

Nobody can discount Russia and Slovakia either, they are two dangerous squads for any opposing team that isn’t careful.

Group C: Germany, Ukraine, Poland, and Northern Ireland.

Clearly, Germany is the favorite to win this group. Though they’ve declined in the past couple of years since winning the World Cup, they’re always among the favorite for good reason. Both Ukraine and Poland have a fair shot at placing second and third in the group, though Northern Ireland can give good competition despite being behind the odds.

Group D: Spain, Czech Republic, Turkey, and Croatia

Spain is the favorite to win the group and is in the hunt for their third Euro Cup in a row. The recent UEFA Champions cup was played by two Spanish teams and though as a national team its effectiveness might not be what is was even a couple of years back, they’re still deadly.

With Luka Modric, Ivan Rakitic, and Mario Mandzukic leading the attack, Croatia also has a solid team, as does Turkey and Czech Republic, who could surprise even the best of teams.

Group E: Belgium, Italy, Republic of Ireland, and Sweden.

An evenly matched group with Italy arguably leading as favorites. Belgium however, is statistically the world’s best team according to FIFA rankings. With Kevin de Bruyne and Eden Hazard in their ranks, they might end up on top of this group.

Group F: Portugal, Iceland, Austria, and Hungary

Speak about Portugal without mentioning Cristiano Ronaldo is hard to think about. After having bagged the 2016 UEFA Champions League title with Real Madrid, the striker will be hungry to put his national team in the books. Austria likely finishes second in this group with David Alaba leading his team. As for Iceland and Hungary, they’ll be fighting for the third spot.
