Betting on the Indianapolis Colts

The Colts this year are 3-2 against the spread, covering in all three home games.

However, take note because they’ve been crushed on the road losing 46-9 at the Rams and 46-18 at the Seahawks.

And, their wins were only by a field goal in both games (against the San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns not the least).

That said, both wins were without their star quarterback Andrew Luck to which you have to give credit to the team.

Also, backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett shows promise enough to, perhaps, keep them alive on the road to the playoffs until Luck’s return.

Brissett led the way in their win over San Francisco with 447 total offensive yards, with wide receiver T.Y. Hilton grabbing 177 yards on 7 catches.

The running game also kicked in with Marlon Mack’s 91 rushing yards and a touchdown on nine carries.

Mack might, in fact, become the Colts’ greatest weapon in this game both as a viable option on the ground and as a screen pass to make way through the Titans’ defenses.

And, as far as defense is concerned, the Colts’ secondary will be all on the field and could potentially shut down the Titans’ passing game. This is true even if Marcus Mariota takes the field tonight because of how his hamstring injury may limit his mobility.

There’s also an opening for linebacker John Simon to wreak havoc in the Titans offense because of Tennessee’s quarterback problems. I expect the Colts to go after Mariota or Cassel hard.

Betting on the Tennessee Titans

The Titans’ offense is heavily reliant on Marcus Mariota’s mobility. Take Mariota out and the house of cards falls down, which is what is happening.

Backup QB Matt Cassel’s limitations were evident in the Titans loss to the Miami Dolphins. Though Cassel ended the game with 141 passing yards and a touchdown, his effort was average at best.

That’s why it’s surprising the Titans head into this game as a 7.5-point favorite. It’s understandable if Mariota were to take the field, but even so given his injury, the spread seems too high.

What’s worse, the Colts have dominated the Titans with eleven (yes, you read right) straight wins.

It’s likely Cassel will start tonight, at least that’s what’s being reported. So, given the circumstances, it’s likely the Titans will run the ball.

It’s going to be a tough game for the Titans even if Mariota does take the field. Given that Cassel might start, the Colts’ secondary and linebackers will make it a long night for the Titans offense.

Colts vs Titans Betting Trends

  • The total has gone OVER in 4 of Indianapolis's last 5 games
  • The total has gone OVER in 9 of Indianapolis's last 10 games on the road
  • Indianapolis is 10-1 ATS in its last 11 games when playing Tennessee
  • The total has gone OVER in 12 of Tennessee's last 18 games
  • Tennessee is 5-1 ATS in its last 6 games at home
  • Tennessee is 8-15-2 ATS in its last 25 games at home

Expert Prediction: For the Titans to win, they need a healthy Mariota. However, even if he does play tonight, his injury might still limit his mobility. If Cassel starts, I don’t see how the Titans can win by a touchdown. My money is on the the Colts at +7.5.
