Betting on the Bulldogs

The Bulldogs are heading to the NCAA men’s basketball championship game for the first time ever, after defeating the South Carolina Gamecocks, 77-73.

That game was a hard-fought battle, where the Bulldogs were almost cut short when they lost a big point first half point advantage in the second half of the game. Gonzaga somehow managed to rally however and in the end held on to win.

Though both teams were expected to play to their strengths, it was the Bulldogs who shut down the Gamecocks with a vice-like defense that kept South Carolina to only 38 percent shooting from the field, while shooting 48 percent themselves.

Once more, Nigel Williams-Goss took the reigns for leading the team, putting up 23 points, grabbing five rebounds and dishing out six assists. Zach Collins also came up with 14 points, 13 rebounds, and six blocks off the bench.

Gonzaga has to like their chances of winning the title. North Carolina doesn’t have the advantage in size and rebounding as they did over Oregon; and, Williams-Goss and Jordan Mathews are a good match up with Justin Jackson and Joel Berry.

Betting on the Tar Heels

The Oregon Ducks gave the Tar Heels one heck of a scare. After missing a few free throws, North Carolina was almost defeated and won just by the sole point, 77-76.

Kennedy Meeks’ solid effort which gave the Tar Heels 14 rebounds along with 25 points on 11 of 13 shooting, was just enough to pull them through. Justin Jackson also contributed with 22 points of his own.

Star point guard Joel Berry struggled once more, shooting 2 of 14 for only 11 points. Berry has been nursing two sprained ankles that without a doubt have affected his performance. However, he wasn’t able to capitalize on hitting a few free throws which would have given the Tar Heels much more wiggle room to win the game. Berry’s performance in the championship game might be a huge factor that may tilt things in Gonzaga’s favor. If Berry has this one game left in him, the Tar Heels will win; if not, I see the Bulldogs winning.

Betting Trends to Consider

  • Gonzaga is 1-3-1 ATS in its last 5 games
  • Gonzaga is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 7 of Gonzaga's last 10 games
  • North Carolina is 2-3-1 ATS in its last 6 games
  • North Carolina is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games

Game Prediction: Berry is a trooper. He’ll rise to the occasion, pushing the Tar Heels to a win.
