  • Place: Moda Center
  • Betting Odds: Portland -3

Bet on the Celtics

The Celtics beat the Blazers earlier this month, but back then they weren’t on the road so it might not be the case this time around, considering Portland hasn’t lost the last five home games.

Boston also needs to dust itself off, after having lost to the Clippers on Monday night. Throughout that game, the Celtics seemed to struggle to put up points, though Isaiah Thomas did wind up with 24 of them.

Thomas has been a driving force for the Celtics as point guard and he should be able to put up as many points as the last time these two met, when he scored 30 points. Avery Bradley could also make a difference as the second leading scorer for Boston. Throughout his five last games, he’s put up double-digits and may be able to cut through Portland’s defense. Jae Crowder might also be back in the fold, after recovering from a sprained ankle that kept him on the bench. If these three take the court, you could see a points bonanza for Boston.

Bet on the Trailblazers

The Trailblazers are on the up-and-up, having won four of their last six games, including consecutive wins against Sacramento and Philadelphia. The combination of C.J. McCollum and Damian Lillard has been great for Portland as they’ve combined for 35 points scored on average.

However, these two seems to fizzle out against Boston and they’re scoring effectiveness decreases significantly. The rest of the team might have to step things up if McCollum and Lillard can’t put up points.

Especially Al-Farouq Aminu and Allen Crabbe will have to get into the fray if they want to keep their winning record at home.

Portland also needs to tighten the noose on defense. Though Ed Davis is particularly good in the paint, he might have problems in defending against Thomas.

Stats Comparison

  • The Celtics lead in points scored with 105.55 versus Portland’s 104.51.
  • The Trailblazers outscore the Celtics over the last 10 games with 109 versus Boston’s 102.20.
  • The Celtics have allowed 102.14, which is better than the Trailblazers’ 103.85.
  • The Celtics have a 79.10 free throw percentage, versus the Trailblazers’ 74.87 percent.
  • The Trailblazers are better at three-pointers with 10.45 versus the Celtics’ 8.81.

Free Pick: Portland is solid at home and they’ll win this game and cover the spread. Take the Trailblazers at -3.
