Bet on the Mets - Jonathon Niese (L)

Finally! That’s what the Mets probably were thinking as they defeated the Diamondbacks for the first time this season. New York dropped four games to Arizona in a seven-day span before scoring seven runs in a two-inning stretch on Tuesday for the 7-5 victory. With the win, the Mets inched above.500 and now are behind St. Louis by three games for the National League's second wild-card spot.

The Mets have scored 18 runs in their last three games and five or more runs in five of their last 10 games with Neil Walker leading the offense with 111 hits and Yoenis Cespedes contributing with 59 RBI along with Asdrubal Cabrera who has 13 home runs.

Jonathon Niese takes the mound and is 8-6 with a 5.20 ERA. It’s Niese’s first start since rejoining the club after coming in as a relief on four occasions. Niese was pummeled by Arizona for six runs in one inning of relief on Thursday and is 4-3 with a 6.94 ERA in 10 career appearances (eight starts) against the Dbacks.

Bet on the Diamondbacks

Arizona has split their last 12 games, allowing 29 runs in their last three and six or more in five straight. Yasmany Tomas put it out of the field in both games of the series and has belted 10 homers in his last 18 contests. Jean Segura leads Arizona with 147 hits, with Paul Goldschmidt adding 74 RBI and Jake Lamb accounting for 24 home runs.

Zack Godley takes the mound with a 3-2 record and a 5.24 ERA. Godley allowed one run and two hits in 5 1/3 innings against Boston on Friday, which prompted the decision to keep him in the rotation and send left-hander Patrick Corbin to the bullpen. It’ll be Godley’s second career game facing the Mets.
