Pitching Matchups

Jake Peavy will make his second start in the series for the Giants on Tuesday, and Yordano Ventura will also be making his second start in the series for the Royals.

Jake Peavy has given the best postseason performance of his 12 year career so far, he is 1-1, with a no decision, and has a 3. ERA in the playoffs. He didn’t have his best stuff in game 2 of the World Series, giving up four runs in five innings, and will have to do a better job in this game, to give his team a chance. He pitched in the World Series last year with the Boston Red Sox, so he shouldn’t be intimidated by the hostile crowd he will face on Tuesday night.

Yordano Ventura has done all that has been required of him by the Royals this season. The second year player became a full time starter this year, and finished the season with a 14-10 record. He followed that up with stellar performances in the postseason, although he has a 0-0 record in the playoffs, he has pitched well enough to put the Royals in a position to win all three of his starts. In his game 2 start, he held the Giants to two runs in five innings, and the bullpen was able to hold them off the rest of the way, while getting big hits on offense, which helped them win the game 7-2. The Royals are hoping for another performance like that in game 6, to give them a chance to win the game.

The Giants have been fortunate to have Madison Bumgarner pitch twice in the World Series, because he helped them win both starts. Now they have to close out the Royals in game 6, to avoid having to bring him back out for game 7 on short rest, because he might not be as effective as he has with regular rest. They have been hitting the ball well lately, and are hoping it will carry over on the road, to make it easier on their pitching staff to get the win.

The Royals have a lot of confidence in Ventura, who has shown he is not intimidated by playing on the biggest stage in the sport, they will need to give him some run support in order, so he can pitch with the confidence that comes with having a lead.

Personal Pick: The Royals have always found a way to win with their backs against the wall during this playoff run, and will do it again against the Giants.
