Betting on the Jets…
Even while die-hard fans are probably still expecting their Jets to pick up a couple of wins to close out the year (it would be a good Christmas gift, wouldn’t it?), it’s not looking like that’ll be the case. New York has lost five of their last six games, with their most recent defeat at the hands of the Dolphins on Saturday, 34-13.
The Jets couldn’t not prevent Matt Moore from pummeling them with 236 yards and four touchdowns. And, as if things couldn’t get worse, they’re now up against the Patriots to which they’ve lost all of their last five road games. Oh, and by the way, quarterback Bryce Petty may not take the field due to an injury suffered in the Jets’ game against Miami. Backup Todd Bowles will take the field in Petty’s likely absence, but it won’t make that much of a difference. Bowles doesn’t have a chance against New England’s formidable defense that’s allowing just 336 total yards per game this year.
Betting on the Patriots…
The Patriots have made it to the playoffs after defeating the defending Super Bowl champions, Denver Broncos, 16-3 last Sunday. It’s New England’s eight-consecutive trip to the playoffs and with the win they’ve also secured a first-round bye which is always good.
New England has carried forth a solid ground attack led by LeGarrette Blount and Dion Lewis, who ran for 95 yards on 18 carries in the victory over the Broncos. Tom Brady was quiet in that game and at some points seemed to struggle but the running game was enough to notch a win. Defense was also solid, turning the tables to the Patriots’ favor and keeping the Broncos to only scoring three points. It goes without saying the defense will wreak havoc in the Jets offensive plans (Jets are only scoring 17 points per game on average).
