Bet on the Texans

The Texans defeated the Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday, 19-12, and picked up some momentum to face the New England Patriots this coming Thursday. Considering the Texans had lost all three previous games against the Chiefs, the win came at the best time for team morale.

Houston this year has an improved defense that so far has been kick-ass; currently, they’re ranked in the third spot in scoring defense giving up only 13 points per game. Against Kansas City, the defense forced three turnovers and sacked opposing quarterback Alex Smith four times. They also did not allow the Chiefs to score a touchdown.

However, their defense will be tested once again by the Patriots that also have a perfect record this season. Especially the Texans’ secondary will have to be mindful of Pats’ air attack that is averaging just around 280 yards through the air this season. Now, Houston will be benefited from the absence of the Pats’ two leading quarterbacks, Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo (who left in their last game with a shoulder injury). This should give defensive end J.J. Watt plenty of opportunities to wreak havoc on the Pats’ third-stringer Jacoby Brissett who is green around the edges.

Bet on the Patriots

The Patriots pulled through in a difficult battle against the Miami Dolphins last Sunday, winning that game 31-24. Miami gave all it had but New England managed to keep their winning record at home against the Dolphins and is now 8-0 over Miami on their home field.

The win took a tally on the Patriots however; during the game, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a shoulder injury that took him out of the game and will not be playing against the Texans. This leaves rookie Jacoby Brissett shouldering the responsibility of leading the offense against a tough Texans’ defense. Though Brissett completed 6 of 9 passes for 92 yards in the brief time he was on the field in the game against Miami, you can be certain that Houston’s defense will do whatever it takes to rattle his cage.

Betting Trends

  • Houston is 5-1 ATS in its last 6 games
  • Houston is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Houston's last 7 games
  • New England is 5-1 ATS in its last 6 games when playing Houston
  • New England is 6-1 SU in its last 7 games when playing Houston
  • The total has gone OVER in 6 of New England's last 7 games when playing Houston

Game Predictions: Brissett is too green around the edges and his inexperience will show in this game. We’re chalking a win up to the Texans. Houston to cover at -2.
