NFL Preseason Previews, Picks and Predictions For Week 2

Arizona Cardinals vs San Diego Chargers

Bet on the Cardinals

The Oakland Raiders defeated the Cardinals in their first game of the preseason by a score of 31-10. Arizona’s QBs missed their mark and had lackluster performances; Matt Barkley completed only 8 of 24 passes for 121 yards, no touchdowns and was picked once, while Drew Stanton only threw for 42 yards completing 2 of 6 passes. Carson Palmer only added 38 yards in 3 for 5 passes. Palmer could have more playing time in the second game so his numbers might be a better.

The Cardinals’ passing game was led by Jaxon Shipley and Troy Niklas who combined for 99 receiving yards on five catches between the two. Arizona’s ground game averaged just around 5 yards per carry with Elijhaa Penny leading the way with 43 yards on 15 carries.

Bet on the Chargers

The Chargers lost their first game against the Titans by a score of 27-10. QB Kellen Clemens led the attack on offense passing for 96 yards on eight completions. Phillip Rivers hit on only two pass attempts but did throw for a touchdown. Melvin Gordon and Hunter Henry led the way on the receiving corps with a combined 77 yards and one TD. On the ground, San Diego averaged around 4.3 yards per carry with Kenneth Farrow leading with 60 yards on 16 carries.

Game Prediction: San Diego wins.

New York Giants vs Buffalo Bills

  • Time: Saturday, August 20, 2016 4:00 PM ET
  • Place: Ralph Wilson Stadium
  • Betting Line: Bills -2.5
  • Total: 40

Bet on the Giants

The Giants lost their first game to the Miami Dolphins 27-10. Star QB Eli Manning did not play in the first game, but is expected to take the field in the second. Ryan Nassib completed 7 of his 15 passes for 75 yards and no scores, while Logan Thomas only threw for 12 yards completing 2 of 3 passes.

Sterling Shepard and Geremy Davis combined for a total of 45 receiving yards on three receptions between them, while Andre Williams led the ground game with 41 yards on nine carries.

Bet on the Bills

Buffalo lost their first game to the Colts 19-18. QB Cardale Jones completed 11 of 21 passes for 162 yards and one TD, while Tyrod Taylor only managed to complete two passes on three pass attempts. Walter Powell and Nick O’Leary led the way in the air game with 127 receiving yards between the two.  Jonathan Williams ran for 44 yards on eight carries, leading the ground game.

Game Prediction: Buffalo wins.

Baltimore Ravens vs Indianapolis Colts

  • Time: Saturday, August 20, 2016 7:00 PM ET
  • Place: Lucas Oil Stadium
  • Betting Line: Colts -3
  • Total: 41

Bet on the Ravens

The Ravens struggled against the Panthers in the first game, though ending up with a win. Baltimore wasn’t able to score in the first quarter but did in the second, led by QB Ryan Mallett who completed 73.3 percent of his passes with a TD and one interception. . Joe Flacco sat out in the first game but is expected to play against the Colts. Baltimore’s first-stringers didn’t play much in the first game, but should see more playing time in this second game.

Bet on the Colts

Most of the Colts’ first-stringers did not play in the first game. . Quarterback Andrew Luck did not play which opened the door for Scott Tolzien and Stephen Morris to lead the offense at the QB position. Tolzien completed 52.2 percent of his passes while Morris was slightly better at 55.6 percent completion. Tevaun Smith leading the way in the air attack with three receptions to his name while Josh Boyce and Phillip Dorsett had two receptions a piece.

Game Prediction: Colts win.

New Orleans Saints vs Houston Texans

  • Time: Saturday, August 20, 2016 8:00 PM ET
  • Place: NRG Stadium
  • Betting Line: Texans -3
  • Total: 41

Bet on the Saints

New Orleans lost the first game to the Patriots by a score of 34-22. Saints’ star QB Drew Brees only threw one pass in that game while backup Luke McCown lead the offense with 143 passing yards and one touchdown. On the receiving end, Michael Thomas and Tommylee Lewis combined for 105 receiving yards on seven catches. The Saints’ ground game was lackluster, averaging 2.6 yards per carry with Marcus Murphy leading the way with 22 yards on seven carries.

Bet on the Texans

The Texans won their first game against the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 24-13. QB Brock Osweiller is expected to get more time in this game after completing just four of seven passes against San Francisco. Backup QB Tom Savage led the offense with 168 passing yards and two touchdowns to his name. Josh Lenz and Jaelen Strong combined for 94 receiving yards on seven catches. The Texans were down 13-7 at the half they outscored the 49ers 17-0 in the second half.

Game Prediction: Texans wins.

San Francisco 49ers vs Denver Broncos

  • Time: Saturday, August 20, 2016 9:00 PM ET
  • Place: Sports Authority Field at Mile High
  • Betting Line: Broncos -5
  • Total: 39

Bet on the 49ers

The Niners lost their first game to the Texans and now look to bounce back against the Broncos in this second game. QB Thaddeus Lewis led the passing attack with 97 passing yards on 12 completions, while Colin Kaepernick should see some playing time in this game after sitting out in the loss. Vance McDonald and Jerome Simpson combined for 83 receiving yards and one touchdown while DeAndrew White had two receptions.

Bet on the Broncos

The Broncos demolished the Bears beating them 22-0 in the first game. Mark Sanchez led the way with 99 passing yards and one touchdown. Sanchez was impressive in his debut with the Broncos and completed 10 of 13 pass attempts. Cody Latimer and Jordan Taylor combined for 126 receiving yards on nine catches while Demaryius Thomas had two receptions.

Game Prediction: Broncos win.
