Mississippi State Bulldogs vs LSU Tigers

  • Time: Saturday, September 17, 2016 7:00 PM ET
  • Place: Tiger Stadium
  • Betting Line: LSU -14
  • Total: 45

Bet on the Bulldogs

The Bulldogs started with their left foot, losing their first season game to South Alabama. However, last Saturday they got their bite back and chewed out South Carolina, 27-14.

Nick Fitzgerald kicked into gear in only his second game for the Bulldogs as quarterback, passing for 178 yards along with 195 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Fitzgerald is one of those running quarterbacks that has raised many eyebrows for his abilities in the ground game that ranks him second overall in rushing quarterbacks with 103 yards per game. However, he might need to step up his passing game against LSU because with only 178 passing yards in 19 of 32 completed passes it just doesn’t cut it.

Bet on the Tigers

LSU still hasn’t found a capable quarterback. Though Brandon Harris and Danny Etling are part of Les Miles’ grab bag of choices, neither has really impressed. Harris struggled in both games, while Etling didn’t look particularly good after coming in against Jackson State last Sunday though he did give an effort that ended in a 46-yard touchdown pass to tight end Sean Smith. LSU won that game 34-14.

It’s still unknown who will start in this game against the Bulldogs but you can be certain whoever it is the Tigers’ strategy won’t deviate much in handing the ball over to their star running back Leonard Fournette who will undoubtedly be returning to the field after missing out the game against Jackson State with a bruised ankle.

Betting Trends

  • Mississippi State is 6-3 ATS in its last 9 games
  • Mississippi State is 7-3 SU in its last 10 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Mississippi State's last 6 games
  • Mississippi State is 1-9 SU in its last 10 games when playing on the road against Louisiana State
  • The total has gone OVER in 5 of Mississippi State's last 6 games when playing on the road against Louisiana State

  • Louisiana State is 2-5 ATS in its last 7 games
  • Louisiana State is 10-4 SU in its last 14 games

Game Predictions: LSU will play to its cards and hand the ball over to Fournette. You can chalk up a win for the Tigers at home but they’ll not cover. Bet the Bulldogs at +14.

Texas Longhorns vs California Golden Bears

  • Time: Saturday, September 17, 2016 10:30 PM ET
  • Place: California Memorial Stadium
  • Betting Line: Longhorns -8
  • Total: 80.5

Bet on the Longhorns

The Longhorns won their first game of the season against Notre Dame by three points, 47-50, stunning the Fighting Irish with the overtime victory. The Texas dealt a blow to UTEP winning their second season game by 34 points. Whatever changes head coach Charlie Strong made during the offseason, it certainly looks like they’re working for now however, it’s still early in the season to make this type of assumption.

They now head on the road where they haven’t had much success and, in fact, finished 1-4 last year. If they do win, it’ll be a first for the Longhorns since 2012 (they haven’t had a 3-0 start since that year.) To accomplish this, they’ll need to figure out a way of locking down the Bears’ passing game, that’s second in the nation, and focus on their renewed offensive attack that includes two quarterbacks, Shane Buechele and back up Tyrone Swoopes.

Bet on the Golden Bears

The Golden Bears got off to a good start in defeating the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors, 51-31. However, they then slipped and fell to San Diego State committing all sorts of mistakes, including turning the ball over four times.

The Golden Bears shouldn’t have a problem in getting the offensive attack going. Quarterback Davis Webb definitely has what it takes to ramp up major yardage, acquiring over 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns in only two games. But, as mentioned above he should be careful in not turning the ball over as he was picked off three times in their game against the Aztecs.

The Golden Bears need to improve their defense if they want to stop the Longhorns and they’re definitely falling short of the mark. California’s pass rush was practically inexistent against Hawaii and their defense was full of holes.

Betting Trends

  • Texas is 4-2 ATS in its last 6 games
  • Texas is 4-2 SU in its last 6 games
  • The total has gone OVER in 4 of Texas's last 6 games
  • California is 6-17 ATS in its last 23 games at home
  • California is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games at home
  • California is 8-15 SU in its last 23 games at home

Game Predictions: California’s lack of defense will show and open up the opportunity for a Texas win. Rack one up for the Longhorns that will cover at -8
