Virginia Tech Hokies vs Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

  • Time: Thursday, November 12, 2015 7:30 PM ET
  • Place: Bobby Dodd Stadium

The Yellow Jackets had a huge win over Florida State a couple of weeks ago, just before the bye, which should give them enough rest to face Virginia Tech.

Georgia Tech’s offense has been particularly strong in the running game, however against the Hokies it’s the passing game that might be of more benefit, given a Hokie secondary unit that might be green around the edges. This being said, the passing game will only work if quarterback Justin Thomas performs well, something which up to this point he has not and is a big reason why they’re at 3-6.

On defense, the Yellow Jackets will do well if they pressure opposing QB Michael Brewer, who is prone to turn the ball over when pushed.

As for the Hokies, they will certainly want to show head coach Frank Beamer a good farewell, as he just announced his retirement at the end of this season, and there’s no better way to say goodbye than with a win.

To do so however, they will need to figure out how to stop the Jackets’ triple-option offense, which is very hard to do. However, as mentioned above, given Thomas’ shortcomings of this year, it’s a feat they might be able to accomplished without that much difficulty.

Virginia Tech’s hopes of reaching a bowl game are also on line in this game and because it’ll be Beamer’s last season, they’ll be leaving everything out on the field to send him off with a bang.

On offense, the Hokies need to set up their running game quickly. To do so, they’ll probably rely on freshman running back Travon McMillian, who has had an outstanding year and improved in every game. Against the 75th ranked Yellow Jackets’ run defense, McMillian can do plenty of damage if he has a strong night.

Nevertheless, much of the game for Virginia Tech will come down on whether or not they can stop the triple-option offense. If they can do this, the tide turns to their favor.

Betting Trends:

  • Virginia Tech is 2-4 ATS in its last 6 games
  • Virginia Tech is 2-4 SU in its last 6 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Virginia Tech's last 5 games
  • Georgia Tech is 1-6 ATS in its last 7 games
  • Georgia Tech is 1-6 SU in its last 7 games
  • The total has gone OVER in 5 of Georgia Tech's last 6 games at home

Game Prediction and Free Pick: It’s going to be a close game. Historically, this rivalry has been decided by one possession in six of the last seven games. Virginia Tech will want to give Beamer one last appearance in a Bowl, but we believe it’s Georgia Tech who will dash the Hokies’ dreams. Take Georgia Tech SU.
