Miami Marlins vs San Francisco Giants

  • Time: Monday, August 08, 2016 7:10 PM ET
  • Place: Marlins Park

Betting Odds:

  • Giants +136
  • Marlins -146
  • Total 6.5

Bet on the Marlins – Jose Fernandez (R)

The Marlins split their last 12 games so they’re looking to change things around in winning tonight’s game. With last Sunday’s win over the Colorado Rockies Miami hopes to continue their push for a wild-card berth. Miami leads the Cardinals by one game and the Mets by two in the race for the last NL wild card.

Jose Fernandez takes the mound tonight, which could work in the Marlins’ favor as the right-hander rarely loses in Marlins Park. Fernandez is 26-2 with a 1.62 ERA at Marlins Park which is outstanding by any measure. Fernandez, however, is on a two-start losing streak, having allowed eight runs in 11 innings against the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals in his last two games.

The Marlins’ offense has been performing well, winning eight of their last 12 games when scoring more than three runs. Martin Prado leads on hits with 134 while Christian Yelich has added 63 RBI and Giancarlo Stanton putting up 24 homers.

Bet on the Giants – Johnny Cueto (R)

The Giants have split their last eight games so they could also use a win tonight. They’re sending Johnny Cueto to the mound who is 8-2 with a 2.82 ERA and a 1.12 walks-plus-hits-per-inning-pitched ratio while on the road this year. Cueto signed a six-year $130 million deal with the Giants last December right after winning the World Series last year with the Kansas City Royals.

In Cueto’s first 18 starts the Giants won 16 this season, however, San Francisco has since lost three of four. The San Francisco Giants offense has been on and off as of late, losing five of their last eight games when scoring more than three runs. Brandon Belt leads the offense with 107 hits, while Buster Posey has 52 RBI and Brandon Crawford has 10 home runs.

Betting Trends

  • San Francisco is 1-5 ATS in its last 6 games
  • San Francisco is 6-15 SU in its last 21 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 9 of San Francisco's last 11 games
  • The total has gone OVER in 5 of Miami's last 5 games when playing San Francisco
  • Miami is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games when playing at home against San Francisco
  • The total has gone OVER in 8 of Miami's last 9 games when playing at home against San Francisco

Game Prediction: It’s going to be a close battle with Fernandez and Cueto pitching tonight. The Giants and Marlins have played 13 times at Marlins Park, 10 of which were decided by two runs or fewer. However, Fernandez is so good at Marlins Park, that’s it’s hard to bet against Miami. We’re betting on Miami 5-4.
