Bet on the Yankees – Luis Severino (R)

The winds of change have come to New York as they’ve decided to let go of Alex Rodriguez this Friday. This won’t stop A-Rod from attempting to put one over the Red Sox in what’s to be his last series against his longtime rivals.

The Yankees went 8-2 right after the All-Star Break, however slipped right after going 4-7 over their next 11 games which included being swept by the Tampa Bay Rays. New York is coming off a three-game series against the Indians, winning games 1 and 3 but losing game two.

They’ll send Luis Severino to start on the mound for the first game, who is 1-6 with a 6.02 ERA and 0-3 while on the road. Severino’s last start was against the Chicago White Sox back in May and that outing resulted in a 7-1 home loss when he surrendered seven runs and seven hits in 2.2 innings, along with four walks and two strikeouts.

The Yankees have made major changes, trading many of their players before the deadline but have kept some of their heavy hitters. Carlos Beltran has hit 109 times with 50 runs, 22 homers and 64 RBI. Didi Gregorius has hit 108 times with 46 runs, 13 homers and 49 RBI. Starlin Castro has put up 106 hits with 43 runs, 12 homers and 46 RBI.

Bet on the Red Sox

The Red Sox are behind the Orioles and the Blue Jays in the division so it’s critical for them to win this series. They’re sending Rick Porcello to start on the mound tonight in hopes of winning the first game. Porcello is 14-3 with a 3.46 ERA and is perfect at Fenway Park. Porcello went 5-0 in five July starts with a 2.57 ERA, but he gave up three runs and four hits in eight innings of a 3-1 road loss to the Seattle Mariners last Wednesday with one walk and eight strikeouts.

Boston has a slew of hitters who could make things interesting tonight. Mookie Betts has hit 146 times with 86 runs, 23 homers and 74 RBI. Xander Bogaerts has 144 hits with 80 runs and 68 RBI. Dustin Pedroia sits on 127 hits with 71 runs, 12 homers and 46 RBI so far.

The Red Sox have won six of the nine meetings played between the teams this year including all three of the games played at home from April 29 through May 1.
