2011 Belmont Stakes

The 136th running of the Belmont Stakes will occur this weekend and horse racing fans will get ready to see a great race.
Unfortunately, another season will eclipse before a horse has a chance at nabbing the Triple Crown. Since Animal Kingdom won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness was won by Shackleford, the Triple Crown cannot be won in 2011. However this race will still be great to watch, and the field is filled with great horses that could surprise the field.
Everyone knows the favorites so let’s take a look at the horses that may surprise in the 2011 Belmont Stakes. Here is a brief look at some of the long shots for the Stakes.
Mucho Macho Man 10-1
Mucho Macho Man is a fan favorite and despite his early struggles he can win this race. Big lanky body may be well suited to the demands and vastness of 1 1/2 miles at Belmont. He seems to be on a fire every other race schedule, so he is due to fire on June 11. With these odds he deserves a look.
Stay Thirsty 25-1
This horse has a catchy nickname and a will to win, but it has yet to surface. I know the talent is there, I saw it many times, including the Gotham, but his last two races do not inspire too much confidence. He will need to turn things around in a big way to factor in, but a return to his home track may help the cause.
Monzon 40-1
This is where a horse bettor will start to reach, but if you want to get a big payout you have to take some risks. I must admit that after a win this winter at Aqueduct, I thought this one may have a future. It certainly has not looked that way since. His chances to follow his daddy's footsteps, and win the Test of Champions, are slim at best. AT 40-1, its doubtful that the horse will win, but anything can happen.
The race will be exciting to watch this week and with just the right amount of luck, maybe a long shot will win the 2011 Belmont Stakes
