The Eagles come into this game after giving the Washington Redskins a beating on Monday Night Football. Quarterback Michael Vick had his best game of the season, and perhaps the best in his career and is being mentioned as an early MVP Candidate.
Vick became the first player in NFL history with at least 300 yards passing, 50 yards rushing, four passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns in a game. Vick later admitted that this could possibly be the best game of his career, “I’ve had some great games in my day,” Vick said. “But I don’t think I’ve had one quite like this one.”
The Eagles were upset by comments made by Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb after losing to the rivals earlier in the season. The Eagles were not shy about running up the score and making sure that the Redskins don’t ever forget this game.
While the Eagles were embarrassing their opponent, the New York Giants were being embarrassed by the lowly Dallas Cowboys.
The Cowboys were considered a lost cause and the Giants entered the game as a lofty 14 point favorite. They left the game batterd and beaten in every aspect of the game. Dallas gained 427 yards against the NFL’s best defense and forced three turnovers against a superior offense.
Earlier that week the Cowboys had fired head coach Wade Phillips and seemed to be content playing out the rest of the year. However with the Cowboys win, the NFC East becomes a dogfight and this game between the Eagles and the Giants will reward first place to the eventual winner.
Giants coach Tom Coughlin felt sick with how his team performed on the field and it didn’t get any better when he watched Vick torch the Redskins. Coughlin admitted. “I got indigestion and a stomach ache.’’ Coughlin will have to work with defensive coordinator, Perry Fewell to come up with a game plan to stop the mobile quarterback with the rifle arm.
Sunday Night Football should be a great battle between two teams vying for supremacy in the NFC East.
