Brazil vs Belgium Betting Odds and Match Preview

On Friday, July 6th at 2pm Eastern, Brazil and Belgium will meet in Kazan, Russia to decide who gets a trip to the 2018 World Cup Semi-Finals. These two teams have met four other times in international play dating back to 1963. Brazil holds the better record in those meetings, at 3-0-1. Brazil is also favored to win this game, according to our World Cup Betting odds, and with teams like Spain, Germany and Argentina already having been eliminated, Brazil also finds itself with the best odds to win the World Cup. Belgium will be a major roadblock, however, as they are almost as lethal as Brazil with stars like Kevin DeBruyne and Romelu Lukaku on the field to counter Brazil's Neymar and Philippe Coutinho.

Brazil

Brazil has gone back to being Brazil for this World Cup. Despite a first game hiccup against Switzerland, Brazil has mostly looked like the world's greatest soccer nation that we all know it to be. Determined to restore their image after losing 7-1 in the semifinal in 2014, since that initial 1-1 tie with Switzerland Brazil has outscored opponents 6-0 en route to this game. They have been impressive in all areas of the field, and players like Philippe Coutinho have stepped up to show the World their skill. They won despite missing key defensemen Marcelo against Mexico in the Round of 16, and while their star Neymar has come under criticism for excessive diving, he has still been the best player on the field in each of the games he has played.

Belgium

After breezing through qualifying and the group stage, Belgium hit a major speed bump in their road to the World Cup Final when they found themselves down 2-0 to Japan with little more than 20 minutes left to play in the Round of 16. Facing another sad chapter in a book full of disappointments that has been their recent history, Belgium took matters into their own hands and willed a 3-2 victory out of goals from Jan Vertonghen, Marouane Fellaini and Nacer Chadli just before time ran out. The victory kept hope alive for a generation of players that is considered to be the best the nation has ever had. Belgium has never won a World Cup, and this year may be their best chance to do it. Now they go on to face the biggest challenge, 5-time champion Brazil in the quarter-finals.

Match Overview

Every round of the World Cup has been exciting so far, and the Quarter-final matchups are promising to bring even more excitement to the tournament. Brazil and Belgium both have a wealth of talent on their rosters and we should see some spectacular soccer being played in this game. The question is if Belgium's come from behind victory against a much weaker team was proof of their mettle when their backs are against the wall, or an example of Belgium's struggles to win convincingly, even against weaker teams. One apparent weakness so far has been Belgium's defending. Teams like Japan who are short on individual talent have been able to pick holes in their midfield, and it goes without saying that a world class Brazilian offense should be able to annihilate them. Look for Brazil to expose the defensive inexperience of Belgium's midfield, namely Kevin DeBruyne and Alex Witsel. For the first time at the World Cup, Belgium are underdogs in this game, so it will be interesting to see how they react.
