MLB Baseball Series Preview: Chicago Cubs vs. Philadelphia Phillies

The Chicago Cubs vs. Philadelphia Phillies series will get underway on Thursday as the two teams start a three game set. The series will be played in the city of brotherly love and the first pitch for game one is scheduled to go at 7:05. The latest MLB Baseball Odds have the Phillies to win the series, which does not come as a surprise considering how the Cubs have been playing. In game one of the series, the Phillies will send Kyle Kendrick to start the series. In his last outing on June 4 in Pittsburgh Kendrick got the spot start for the Phils, tossing five innings in a 6-3 loss to the Pirates. He allowed four runs on eight hits and was tagged with the loss. The Cubs will begin the series with Randy Wells. f not for 95-degree heat and Albert Pujols, Wells might have gone deeper in his last start. He gave up three hits -- two to Pujols -- over 5 2/3 innings and did not get a decision. This will be his third start since coming off the DL. In game two the Phillies will send ace Roy Halladay to the hill to try and break out of his personal slump. The reigning NL Cy Young winner pitched well enough to stop the Phillies' losing streak in his last outing on Sunday in Pittsburgh. Halladay pitched seven effective innings as Philly snapped a season-high four-game skid. On the other side of the field the Cubs will give the ball to Carlos Zambrano. Zambrano was denied a win on Sunday in his last start when the Cardinals rallied for a 10-inning win. He criticized his teammates after the game. It will be interesting to see how they -- and he -- respond. In game three of the series the Cubs will send Matt Garza to the hill for his second start after coming off the disabled list. He will be opposed by Cliff Lee, the second half of the dynamic duo for the Phillies. With two of the top pitchers in the league in their rotation, the Phillies will be tough to beat. The pitchers for game four have yet to be decided, but it won’t matter. With the top two pitchers in baseball getting a start against the Cubs, they won’t have a shot. The Cubs are struggling to win baseball games and stay healthy while the Phillies are on a path to the World Series. MLB Series Betting Picks: Philadelphia Phillies
