Oklahoma Sooners (July 27)

Oklahoma collected 41 of 43 No. 1 votes among media in the preseason conference poll that was recently taken in Irving, Texas.  There's certainly no doubt that the Big 12 Conference has a national title contender in Norman.

The Sooners faithful are use to winning and lead all current members with seven conference championships.  Last year's result ended in a tie between four teams in the South division, but Oklahoma move on to defeat Nebraska in the conference championship game.

Since the end of World War II, no other team in the country has won more games (567) and has a higher winning percentage (.763).  Overall, the program has proudly won seven national championships and produced five Heisman Trophy winners.

Quarterback Landry Jones could easily provide the school with both of those accomplishments this year, coming off a sophomore campaign that saw him thrown for 4,718 yards and 38 touchdowns.

He will get a chance to come out the gate quickly by welcoming Tulsa into Memorial Stadium, a venue that has seen the Sooners produce a 355-78-15 all-time record.

Wide receiver Ryan Broyles will serve as his main target, coming back for his senior year after catching 131 passes for 1,622 yards last season.  He has 266 career receptions and needs just 51 to break the NCAA record.

The offense has been high-octane since head coach Bob Stoops arrived on campus 13 years ago, averaging 37 points per game and setting 66 offensive records under his watch.

On the other side of the ball, Oklahoma has produced a takeaway in 141 of his 160 games and produced 38 defensive scores.

All of these marks listed above have made it possible for Stoops to hold the highest winning percentage (.806) amongst active coaches with at least 10 years of experience as head coach.

The stop unit was considered a weakness in 2010, ranking 33rd nationally in scoring defense, allowing 21.8 points a game.  Oklahoma also allowed 148.9 rushing yards a contest, which was ranked 58th in the country.

The schedule gets much tougher after the opening contest, traveling to Tallahassee following a bye week on September 17 and then opening Big 12 competition by hosting Missouri the following week.

It's safe to say that the only expectation this season is a trip to the BCS National Championship Game in January.
