Eagles vs. Panthers

  • When: Sunday, October 25, 2015 8:30 PM ET
  • Where: Bank of America Stadium

The Eagles have had a lackluster start this year, however it’s been looking better these last couple of weeks, winning against the Giants 27-7 most recently and giving a great defensive effort that won them the game.

Despite an offense that hasn’t much to brag about, with a Sam Bradford that is lacking the drive to push the squad, the Eagles have been slowly kicking into gear and that should be ready for Sunday’s kickoff. Bradford needs to correct his misgivings however and protect the ball better than what he has, against the sturdy Panthers defense that’s one of the best against the pass and that will certainly try to get him in hot water.

Philly’s best weapon in this game, will be their defense. They can certainly get to Cam Newton, with a front seven that was great against the Giants and also force interceptions with the likes of cornerback Nolan Carroll II.

The Panthers did however snap their four-game slump, and pulled off the comeback against the Seahawks, so they’ll have some momentum going which they’ll carry into the game. If Newton can get his passing game going, he could exploit it as the Eagles have been pretty soft against the pass, allowing 260.7 yards via the pass. The Newton-Olsen combo was pretty effective against Seattle and it could work against the Eagles.

They could also go to their running game, which might take some pressure off Newton, and allow them to gain yards on the ground to get them closer to the end zone.

As for the Eagles, their most effective weapon might be their defense, especially the pass rush. They’re tied in the third spot in the league this season, with eight interceptions to their stead, which included two that ended up in a score. Carolina’s secondary will prove to be a problem for Sam Bradford, and he could end up being picked off several times in the game.

Betting Trends:

  • Philadelphia is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games when playing Carolina
  • Philadelphia is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games when playing Carolina
  • Carolina is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games
  • Carolina is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games

Betting Line: The Carolina Panthers are the 3-point favorites heading into this game; the OVER / UNDER total is at 46.

Betting Prediction and Pick: The Panthers are sitting at 5-0, which might be somewhat misleading because they really haven’t dominated opponents. They do have the home field advantage here, so it could be the factor which tips the scales to their favor. I see the Eagles keeping it close but still losing the game. The Panthers will cover, take them at -3.
