SMU Mustangs vs USC Trojans

  • When: Friday, March 17, 2017 – 3:10 PM ET
  • Where: BOK Center – Tulsa, OK
  • Spread: SMU -6.5
  • Over/Under: 138.5

Analysis: This will be one heck of a match facing two great teams. The SMU Mustangs is probably one of the most exciting squads to watch in this tournament. Not only are they on a 16-game winning streak, they’re also the AAC title holders after they beat Cincinnati 71-56 in that  conference’s final game. Three Mustangs stand out, Semi Ojeleye (18.8 PPG), Shake Milton (13.3 PPG, 4.5 APG), and Sterling Brown (13.1 PPG), who’ve led this team to be one of the top two scoring offenses and defenses in the conference.

As for USC, the Trojans just beat Providence last night 75-71, proving why they deserve to be in this Tournament. USC trailed for part of the game, but they picked up intensity in the second half, outscoring the Friars 46-27 and eventually won the game. The Trojans also have three notable players in the ranks, Jordan McLaughlin, Bennie Boatwright, and Chimezie Metu, who give USC a strong presence both inside and outside the paint.

Game Prediction: The Trojans have already beaten the Mustangs earlier in the season. However, I believe this game will be different and favor the Mustangs to win.

Kansas Jayhawks vs UC Davis Aggies

  • When:  Friday, March 17, 2017, 6:55 PM ET
  • Where: Bank of Oklahoma Center – Tulsa, Oklahoma
  • Spread: Kansas -23.5
  • Over/Under: 145.5

Analysis: This game is easy to call as far as which team will win. However, can Kansas beat the spread? You have to admit, 23 points is pretty high and the Jayhawks were booted out of the Big 12 tournament in the first round though winning the regular season title. Nevertheless, Kansas didn’t have Josh Jackson in the Big 12 tournament due to him being suspended and they do now, along with Frank Mason (21 PPG, 5 APG) and Devonte Graham (13 PPG, 4.3 APG).

As for UC Davis, you have to give them credit for winning their first ever NCAA Tournament game. Though by the slightest of margins, 67-63, the Aggies beat North Carolina Central yesterday. However,  I think this game will be the end of the line for UC Davis. They really don’t have the offense or defense to stand against the Jayhawks. Though big man Chima Moneke will likely have a good game and score some buckets below the rim, the Jayhawks will end up overrunning them.

Game Prediction: Though the Jayhawks have one of the top offenses in the country – they’re ranked No. 9 in efficiency- the spread is way to high for them to cover it. Kansas is just 7-12-1 against the spread in their last 20 games, so if you’re going to bet this game, bet it straight up.
