- What: Kansas Jayhawks vs Purdue Boilermakers
- When: March 23, 2017, 9:39 PM ET
- Where: Sprint Center
- Spread: Kansas -4.5
- Over/Under: 156.5
Analysis: The Jayhawks blew through their first two opponents quite easily with their blistering offensive style. It’s hard to see them at this time slowing down; freshman Josh Jackson, who’ll probably be heading to the NBA in a short time, is peaking in this competition and along with Frank Mason III and Devonté Graham account for this team’s heavy-hitting punch. Landen Lucas is also performing well, especially in the paint and should be critical in this game against the Boilermakers. Purdue’s big man has proved his grit and turned into its offensive backbone and should take a big role in hopefully defeating Kansas.
Game Prediction: Kansas wins and covers at -4.
- What: Florida Gators vs Wisconsin Badgers
- When: March 24, 2017, 9:59 PM ET
- Where: Madison Square Garden
- Spread: Florida -1.5
- Over/Under: 131.5
Analysis: It’s about this time in the competition that the pressure on teams goes up to intense levels. The Gators have been efficient in playing to its strengths, winning over Virginia in the second round by putting on a defense that stifled the Cavaliers. The Badgers meanwhile knocked out No. 1 seed, and defending national champions, Villanova in an exciting game that went to the wire and saw Nigel Hayes turn into the hero. It’ll be tougher for Hayes now however, as the Badgers will turn up the pressure on him so unless other players step up it might be the end of the road for Wisconsin.
Game Prediction: Wisconsin pulls through once more.
- What: Arizona Wildcats vs Xavier Musketeers
- When: March 23, 2017, 10:09 PM ET
- Where: SAP Center
- Spread: Arizona -7
- Over/Under: 145
Analysis: Xavier has surprised. They’ve shown grit through the first two games, defeating Maryland and then No. 3 seed Florida State. Trevon Bluiett leads Xavier’s offense and picked up the slack left with Edmond Sumner’s absence. The Wildcats though are also playing well, led by freshman Lauri Markkanen and sophomore Allonzo Trier who have scored in double digits through the first games. This game will come down to which team has the better bench as, all things being equal, they’re pretty evenly matched.
Prediction: Arizona wins.
- What: Gonzaga Bulldogs vs West Virginia Mountaineers
- When: March 23, 2017, 7:39 PM ET
- Where: SAP Center
- Spread: Gonzaga -3
- Over/Under: 148.5
Analysis: Northwestern stood its ground against the Bulldogs. But, eventually were defeated in a game that saw Gonzaga’s Nigel Williams-Goss finally kick into gear with 20 points, with 8 rebounds and 4 assists. He, along with Jordan Mathews will prove instrumental in cracking through the Mountaineers exceptional full court press. I expect big man Zach Collins to take a central role in this game, as West Virginia doesn’t have anyone to stand to his height.
Game Prediction: Gonzaga wins and covers.
