Betting on the Yankees

The Yankees are fighting to gain some traction in the AL East, and find themselves in the middle of a three-game road swing.

Over the weekend, New York split a four-game series against the Boston Red Sox, but hope to bounce back in this series albeit losing the first game yesterday.

The Yankees are 4-6 over their last 10 games and are behind both the Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays.

New York’s bullpen hasn’t really played well as of late, but are holding on to 5th place in the league with a 3.90 ERA. They’ve had 44 quality starts which sets them as 10th best in the league this year.

However, things took a wrong turn on Monday when they announced Michael Pineda, who was having a good year so far, will miss the rest of the year due to having to undergo Tommy John surgery.

With Pineda out, the Yankees are now scrambling to either trade or a new starter or rely on one of their young guns to step up to the mound.

As for their batters, the Yankees are still one of the best in the league. Their .262 batting average is 8th in the league, scoring 488 runs (3rd best in baseball).

Aaron Judge leads the way with 100 hits and 66 RBI while Starlin Castro and Brett Gardner have combined for 176 hits and 86 RBI.

Starting Pitcher

Luis Cessa gets the nod against the Twins. Over three starts, the second year pitcher has not gained a win (0-3) and has a 4.18 ERA. Cessa pitched 1.2 innings against the Twins last season allowing one run.

Yankees Trends

  • NY Yankees is 1-5 ATS in its last 6 games when playing Minnesota
  • NY Yankees is 10-3 SU in its last 13 games when playing Minnesota
  • The total has gone OVER in 13 of NY Yankees' last 19 games when playing Minnesota

Betting On The Twins

The Twins hold second place in the AL Central, just 1.5 games behind Minnesota is fighting for the division crown and one of the two Wildcards.

The Twins lost a three-game series versus the Houston Astros last weekend, so they’re scrambling to avoid losing two series in a row.

Minnesota has split their last 14 games and consistency is key at the moment.

Despite not having a strong bullpen, the Twins have been winning. This year, the pitching staff has a 4.86 ERA, which is 27th in the league.

The 34 quality starts their starters have is 26th in the league, which isn’t overtly impressive.

Also, the Twins’ hitting hasn’t impressed. For the year, they have a .252 batting average (19th in the league), and their 415 runs sets them at 26th in baseball.

Brian Dozier leads the Twins with 87 hits and 46 RBI while Miguel Sano and Eddie Rosario have combined for 168 hits.

Starting Pitcher

Minnesota gives Bartolo Colon the nod tonight. Colon was recently released by the Atlanta Braves and has struggled this year after a fantastic 2016 campaign.

In 13 starts, the 44-year-old is 2-8 with an 8.14 ERA. Colon has allowed 23 runs in his last four starts.

Twins Trends

  • Minnesota is 4-13 SU in its last 17 games when playing at home against NY Yankees
  • The total has gone OVER in 7 of Minnesota's last 9 games when playing at home against NY Yankees
  • Minnesota is 8-15 ATS in its last 23 games at home

Expert Pick

It doesn’t sit well with me that the Yankees are starting with an inexperienced pitcher. But, New York should be able to hit some runs off Colon. New York wins the second game.
