Can The Nationals Sweep The Mets Today?

The Mets are tallying a three-game losing streak which they hope to break by beating the Washington Nationals today. Do you have your pick on this game? Get it below!

New York Mets vs Washington Nationals

  • When: July 05, 2017, 7:08 PM ET
  • Where: Nationals Park
  • Moneyline: Mets -110 vs Nationals +100
  • Over/Under: 8.5

Betting on the Mets

The Mets missed their golden opportunity of cutting the distance between them and the Nationals in losing the first two games of this series.

Now, instead of being behind by single digits, they’re trailing the Nationals by 11.5 games and three behind the second place Atlanta Braves.

The Mets were close to winning the first game, losing 3-2.

But, the second game was a disaster and they wound up losing 11-4.

New York jumped to an early 2-0 lead in Tuesday’s game, before Daniel Murphy and Bryce Harper combined to score seven runs and secure the win for the Nationals.

The Mets have allowed 14 runs in this series and six or more runs in four of their last eight games, but have a fair shot at winning tonight when they face Tanner Roark who hasn’t fared well in his last starts.

Jay Bruce leads the Mets with 79 hits and 57 RBI while Michael Conforto and Curtis Granderson have combined for 123 hits and 77 RBI, but they’ll need to do more if they hope to win.

Pitcher Analysis

Jacob deGrom heads to the mound tonight to start.

deGrom is 8-3 with a 3.55 ERA in 16 starts, and has been one of the few good players for the Mets this season.

Over his last four starts, deGrom has only allowed three runs in at least seven innings, and could be the Mets’ savior tonight.

Mets Trends

  • NY Mets is 2-5 ATS in its last 7 games when playing Washington
  • NY Mets is 1-6 SU in its last 7 games when playing Washington
  • The total has gone OVER in 5 of NY Mets' last 7 games when playing Washington

Betting on the Nationals

The Nationals have won three straight and are in the hunt of a fourth win to make it back atop the National League standings.

Washington is looking forward to heading into the All Star break on a positive note. Sweeping the Mets would give them that.

The Nationals are playing well both on offense and defense with batters such as Bryce Harper and Daniel Murphy and the contribution of the entire pitching rotation.

Murphy leads the way with 105 hits and 60 RBI while Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman have combined for 187 hits and 126 RBI.

However, they’ll face a tough challenge tonight against deGrom who has been pitching stellar as of late.

Pitching Analysis

Tanner Roark gets the nod tonight for the Nationals.

In 17 starts, Roark gained a 6-6 record with a 5.27 ERA. After a good start to the season, Roark hit a rough patch and has been pummeled by opponents.

Roark has lost four of his last five decisions and has allowed 24 runs in that span, which has to be reason for worry for Washington.

The Nationals are 7-3 in Roark’s last 10 starts vs. Mets, the Mets are 6-1 in deGrom’s last 7 starts vs. Nationals and the over is 6-2-1 in the last 9 meetings.

It really doesn’t give much hope to the Mets that their bullpen has been so inconsistent as of late.

Nationals Trends

  • Washington is 5-10 ATS in its last 15 games at home
  • Washington is 2-4 ATS in its last 6 games when playing at home against NY Mets
  • Washington is 8-3 SU in its last 11 games when playing at home against NY Mets

Expert Pick

Even if the Mets haven’t played well in their last few games, I think Roark should be able to pull through. New York in the best bet on this game.
