#5 Auburn Tigers vs. #20 Kansas State Wildcats, Thursday, September 18, 7:30 PM. ET. ESPN

So far this season, Auburn is 2-0 ATS, while Kansas State is 0-2; the Tigers have had a lot of success running the ball in the past, so they are sticking to the game plan that worked so well for them last season. The loss of leading rusher Tre Mason, who ran for over 1,800 yards last year was supposed to be a problem for the Tigers, but their two remaining senior running backs are proving more than capable to carry the load.

Cameron Artis-Payne is leading the way on the ground for the Tigers this year, running for 289 yards and 4 touchdowns on 42 carries, while his backup Corey Grant has 176 yards and 1 touchdown on 20 carries. The Tigers have not faced a team with a as good a run defense as the Wildcats, so they probably won’t be able to put up the amount of rushing yards that they did in their first two games.

Although they don’t have a quarterback controversy, the Tigers might soon have one on their hands if quarterback Nick Marshall doesn’t improve his play soon, he has only completed 56 percent of his passes, for 151 yards and 1 touchdown, while his backup Jeremy Johnson, is completing 75 percent of his passes for 277 yards and 2 touchdowns. If he can’t increase his efficiency, head coach Gus Malzhan might be forced to go with the more accurate passer.

Kansas City overcame a disastrous first half against Iowa State, and was able to rally back and win the game, thanks to the heroics of quarterback Jake Waters, who is a dual threat quarterback that can hurt you with his arms or feet. He has been the best player on the Kansas State team this year, throwing for 462 yards and 2 touchdowns, while adding another 193 and 4 touchdowns on the ground, leading his team back into the top 25 rankings.

Waters has gotten some help offensively from running back Charles Jones, who has added 130 yards and 4 touchdowns of his own to take some of the pressure away from Waters. They have the 31st best running game in the country, which will be put to the test against the Tigers 41st ranked run defense.

Their best point of attack against the Tigers will be through the air, which has been Auburn’s weakness this season, if they can attack the secondary successfully, they will be able to gain a lot of yards on the ground, because the defense will back off because they don’t want to get burned by the big pass play.

Game Line: Auburn is currently favored to win this game by 8.5 points.

Personal Pick: Auburn has a more talented team, which will be the difference maker in this game which will be a very close win on the road for Auburn.
