The New York Knicks Try to Stay Alive against the Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics won the last game in Madison Square Garden in convincing fashion and now the New York Knicks are one game away from elimination.

The Knicks won't just be looking to end a decade-long playoff win drought in Sunday's Game 4 against the Celtics, they'll be looking to avoid what many thought was not reasonable to consider when this series started: a sweep.
But with Amar'e Stoudemire (pulled muscle in his lower back) limited and Chauncey Billups (strained tendon in his left knee) sidelined for Games 2 and 3, this Knicks team isn't whole. As it is they came into the series with an incomplete roster, but with Carmelo Anthony as their only healthy star, it is impossible to truly judge this team against the defending Eastern Conference champions.
Even if they suddenly found a miracle cure by Sunday and had Stoudemire and Billups ready to go, the daunting 0-3 hole the Knicks are in now is historically insurmountable. In NBA history, no team has ever come back to win a best-of-seven series after losing the first three games. At this point, the best the Knicks can do is come away with at least one win, just to avoid the embarrassment of a sweep and the continuation of what is now nine straight losses in the post-season, which dates back to 2001.
Things are looking pretty lopsided as the Celtics take a 3-0 series lead into Game 4 Sunday afternoon in New York. There was a lot of hype and hoopla leading into Friday, when the Celtics put a stranglehold on things with a 113-96 win.
That outcome took much of the steam out of what many were hoping would be a revival of an old rivalry. To those who knew Celtics-Knicks back when both teams had championship aspirations, the current battle is a weak facsimile of the former conflicts.
The Celtics won with defense and the Knicks were not able to get things going on the offensive end. Now with one game left, it will be interesting to see if the Knicks can win one game in the series.
