2014 NFL Preseason Week 2 Weekend Games

The rest of the games in the second week of the 2014 NFL preseason that will be played on Saturday, August 16, are:

The Baltimore Ravens vs. the Dallas Cowboys, at 7 PM. ET.

Joe Flacco couldn’t lead his team to the playoffs last year, because he lost his most reliable receiver to the 49ers, and his tight end was hurt for the year. The return of Dennis Pitta, and the improvement of Torrey Smith, should make their offense better than it was last year. The Cowboys have already lost Sean Lee for the season and DeMarcus Ware to the Broncos. Their failure to address their defensive problems will hurt them again this season.

The Buffalo Bills vs. The Pittsburgh Steelers, at 7:30 PM. ET.

The Bills addressed some of their run stopping woes by signing Brandon Spikes; they still have to find a way to keep E.J. Manuel healthy, after missing some games due to different injuries last season. The Steelers are getting older, but still believe they have what it takes to make another championship run. After two consecutive 8-8 seasons, that remains to be seen.

Miami Dolphins vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers, at 7:30 PM. ET.

The Dolphins need to improve their running game, so their passing attack can have a chance. Once they have a competent runner in the backfield, quarterback Ryan Tannehill will be able to take advantage of the play action, and find deep threat Michael Wallace in single coverage. The Buccaneers needed an attitude adjustment, so the team brought in Lovie Smith to do just that. He will have a lot of success if he focuses on the defense, and allows the offensive coordinator to handle the offense.

Atlanta Falcons vs. Houston Texans, at 8 PM. ET.

Matt Ryan will be trying to rebound from his worst season as a pro, and lead his team back to the top of the NFC South, but will have to contend with the improved Saints and Panthers. The Texans feel they are just a quarterback away from returning to the top of their division, but failed to draft one. They are hoping journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick will get the job done for them this season.

Arizona Cardinals vs. Minnesota Vikings, at 8:30 PM. ET.

The Cardinals are a deep team offensively and defensively, and they will be a problem for any team they face this year. The Vikings have some talented players on their team, but were unable to achieve much last year because of their quarterback situation. Now that the team has addressed that area, they are hoping to make it back to the playoffs.

There are two games scheduled for Sunday, August 17.

The Denver Broncos vs. The San Francisco 49ers, at 4 PM. ET.

Peyton Manning is going to be leading the best offense in football again this year, and the team also added some very good defensive players, which will make them very tough to beat. The 49ers added a few receivers to help Colin Kaepernick and the offense out, if their defense plays like it has in the last couple of years, they will one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Carolina Panthers, at 8:00 PM. ET.

It is a contract year for Alex Smith, so expect him to play very well this year. The Chiefs will have to contend with the Broncos and Chargers, so they will have their work cut out for them if they plan to win the division.

There is one game scheduled for Monday, August 19,

The Cleveland Browns vs. Washington Redskins.

The yearlong suspension of Josh Gordon is a huge blow for a team that was hoping to compete this year, they are still talented offensively, but they will miss Gordon’s production. The Redskins have a new coach, who is hoping Robert Griffin III is fully healed from his MCL injury from 2012, and plays like he did before the injury.
