2014 NFL Preseason Week 2

As the second week of preseason football is about to start, we will take a look at all the games scheduled to be played over the weekend.

The first game of the second week is Thursday Night Football, on August 14, at 8:00 PM. ET.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will play the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field, Jacksonville has had its share of bad luck lately, Blaine Gabbert, who was supposed to be the franchise quarterback flamed out, and Justin Blackmon, their talented receiver has addiction problems he is dealing with, and was suspended indefinitely last season. The team is looking for a fresh start, and they are hoping Blake Bortles is the answer. Jay Cutler just signed a contract extension with the Bears, and has two Pro Bowl receivers on his team, which means they have the talent to make the playoffs if they can stay healthy.

There are four games scheduled for Friday, August 15.

The Philadelphia Eagles vs.The New England Patriots at 7:30 PM. ET.

It will be almost impossible for Nick Foles to repeat the phenomenal season he had last year, but he is still expected to be good enough to take them back in the playoffs for the second straight year. The Patriots are a contender year in, year out; they have a Healthy rob Gronkowski this year, which will make a huge difference in their offense.

The Tennessee Titans vs. New Orleans Saints at 8 PM. ET.

The rebuilding Titans aren’t expected to do much, but they will surprise a few teams this year, as long as Jake Locker continues to improve, and stays healthy. The Saints spent their offseason improving their defense, with free agent signings like Jairus Byrd, and Champ Bailey, in an effort to win their division, and earn a trip back to the Super Bowl.

The San Diego Chargers vs. the Seattle Seahawks at 10 PM. ET.

Phillip Rivers and the Chargers almost made it to the AFC Championship game last year, and are much more improved this year offensively and defensively. They will try to take the division crown away from the Broncos. The Seahawks are ready to make another run at the Lombardi trophy, they locked up some of their key defensive players with contract extensions, and they believe they can contend for years to come.

The Detroit Lions vs. the Oakland Raiders at 10 PM. ET.

A late season collapse prevented the Lions from making the playoffs, after an impressive start, and an injury to the Packers quarterback. They will be hoping to avoid making the same mistakes again, and have added a few players to help them make the playoffs. Oakland is hoping to have their first winning season in 12 years, and brought in veteran quarterback Matt Schaub, to lead this young team.

The Green Bay Packers will play the St. Louis Rams at 4 PM. ET.

Julius Peppers will be trying to show the world that he is worth the contract the Packers gave him, despite his age. The Rams are hoping they can get a full year from Sam Bradford, so they can finally determine if he is their franchise quarterback or not.

The New York Giants will visit the Indianapolis Colts at 7 PM. ET.

The Giants have high expectations this year, despite finishing 7-9 last year. Unfortunately, they will have to do it without the services of third year running back David Wilson, who has been forced to retire due to a neck injury. The Colts have been getting better every year with Andrew Luck as their quarterback, and they are expected to be better this year.

The New York Jets will play the Cincinnati Bengals at 7 PM. ET.

Geno Smith has to play well this preseason, if he doesn’t want to lose his starting job to Michael Vick. Andy Dalton got a vote of confidence from the Bengals when they gave him a $100 million contract, he will need to win in the playoffs to justify the contract.
